1943 N-1 Naboo Starfighter

Description

WHAT? That's right. Star Wars. Like my 1945 Y-wing, here's something along the same ridiculous lines. I understand that it really isn't the same craft (or looks like it) but it is, and it undeniably is.

I actually didn't intend for it to be an N-1, it just sort of happened. So here's the backstory:

"The N-1 was built in southern Italy by a small company (Gabreailli) under the degrading roof of a warehouse in 1938. The Company manufactured 18 planes that year, 10 of which being the N-1, 7 being the N-2 (more or less the same plane, but with a bit more powerful engine) and one G-13 (1938's primary production, this model was an overflow into 1939). This N-1 lived a rather basic life for two years as a fisherman's boat in Morocco. But when the U.S. army kicked the door on the Africa Campaign with the British, the plane was found and commandeered by U.S. troops. The simple N-1 became the "Young Gun", piloted by Andrew Wanderer (yes, that is the movie reference). It was repainted from its standard Pearl White scheme to a desert tan, and was rather brutally cut into to become a search and rescue plane for primarily ocean-based searches, and the occasional desert hunt. The plane received two new turrets (each one mounting a single .50 Caliber Browning machine gun) and 3 search lights (two under-wing, on the primary support, and one behind the central turret) and furniture for depth charges and depth charges themselves. The plane then worked for 3 years over the Atlantic and Saharan masses with over 700 men from the freezing depths and burning plains. The "Young Gun" also was known for more than this impressive statistic, for the not all of the men the craft saved were Allied troops. Although the "savior of the enemy" (as these stories are called) happened three times, the most memorable story was of the winter of 1943, when the Young Gun was performing "eye in the sky duties" over the American convoy MAW-329785 (codename Ventura) consisting of 7 tankers and 2 destroyers, the Olympia and Noah, when the convoy was ambushed by the German Pocket Battleship Feuer (Fire) and the N-1 was put down into the water by the German guns (the starboard engine was broken down by a large blast of flak) and was forced to wait for the battle was over. The Destroyers put the German ship under the waves by "breaking around and broadsiding on both sides". The "Young Gun" was forced to stay after the skirmish was over, and was left with the Germans who were able to escape the metal husk. The N-1 taxied over to the struggling community on its port engine and acted as not only shelter but a hospital as well to over 100 men. The flight engineer (Jonathan Yeather) was aided by those who boarded the plane, and was able to get starboard engine back into running order). The N-1 was loaded to the point that it almost sunk with most heavily wounded, and flew back to the American Morocco Naval Emplacement and proceeded to make three more trips and save all but 3 of those who were left stranded after the battle. The end of N-1 was actually rather tragic- it was martyred, the "Young Gun" serving off the British aisles in 1944 and was given the task of overwatch in the North Atlantic, where the crew stumbled upon a German attack column, composed of 2 battleships, 3 frigates, 5 destroyers and a radio ship. The "battle" was very swift, it basically a pot-shot at the lone craft and the N-1 was quickly sent spiraling down on one wing towards it's watery grave- but it was interupted by one small thing. The radio ship. The German radio central had its back broken, and was brought down with the "Young Gun" This crippled the German Column from talking to its counter-parts and lost it's ability to communicate with the other columns, and left the others to a ultimately lost cause- because without any of this column the "first punch" of the German naval assault of Britain was lost, and an attack that was "missing" 10 of its complete 26 was doomed to fail. Which it ultimately did, thus concluding the short, heroic life of the N-1"

Pbbthhh. I'll be honest, I came up with quite a bit of that on the spot. Sorry for typos, I don't feel like editing right now.

get the FREE, ORIGINAL, model here!: [link] or don't. I mean, it's your choice, not mine. But you would be missing out on the totally neat little bit of interior I made. It'd actually be your loss, I mean, that's like only eating the frosting off a cupcake, and then not eating the rest. I do that. But you shouldn't. You should download the model.

That's a nice plane, and a really cool backstory for it as well. Nicely done.
